Greetings.  My name is Cherie Capps.  It seems that I have been interested in how the body works and how we can keep it healthy since I was a child. This is probably because my mother was always reading nutrition books and feeding us the weirdest food – or so we kids thought.

Education and Training:

After getting a degree in music and then teaching in public schools and private piano, I returned to my lifetime interest and enrolled in the local college massage therapy program. This seemed to be the best way to get the anatomy and physiology information that I wanted. I did go on to practice massage therapy for about 6 years.

In the meantime, I heard about Dominion Herbal College and their clinical herbalist program. I traveled to Vancouver BC (from my home in Eugene, OR) every month for a weekend workshop for about a year and a half. This enabled me to take their certification exams, giving me a Clinical Herbalist Therapy degree. A few years later I submitted a thesis to Dominion and was awarded a Master Herbalist Degree. I then spent five years writing and presenting my two-year certified herbalist program in my garage-turned classroom, teaching both on-site and by correspondence. This course covered the medicinal uses of herbs, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, hydrotherapy, and healthy eating regimes.

My Philosophy:

My approach to health stems from a Nature Cure, Natural Living lifestyle. This encompasses eating real food; keeping the body internally clean and free from toxins, and using natural God-given remedies for repairing a sick body. We can work with the body, not against it, to produce health and healing.

I appreciate the fact that we have trained, professional medical practitioners available to us when they are needed, but I also believe that, with knowledge, we can do much to preserve and protect our own health. We have been conditioned to leaving our health up to the professionals, but as we learn to ‘read’ our bodies we can play a large part in our own well-being.

It is my hope that this avenue of communication can help us all live a healthier life.
